Largest US Defense Budget Likely to Include Funds to Aid Ukraine Counter China Hike Pay for Service Members

On Capitol Hill, the new U.S. defense budget is the largest in history, reaching nearly $900 billion. A Senate committee has agreed on the measure, and the House Armed Services Committee sent its version to the floor as well. Lawmakers for the House plan call the bill a major step towards restoring the strength of the U.S. military. It provides money for the Pentagon, not only to counter global threats, but also to address key quality of life concerns facing service members. Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-Virginia) explained, "We want them to have the best resources and best tools to do the job, which is war-fighting. We also want to take care of our servicemen and women." The House version of the National Defense Authorization Act provides an additional $300 million to support Ukraine, new programs and initiatives to counter China, and an historic pay raise for service members. from CBNNews.com https://ift.tt/HDaEcU5 via

Liberal-Run Cities Trapped in an 'Urban Doom Loop'

For the first time ever, the city of San Francisco is spending $6 million for a national tourism campaign, hoping to change the perception that one of the world’s most beautiful destinations has turned into an urban nightmare. How bad is it? So-called "poop apps" have been created over the years to help residents avoid the excrement on sidewalks and streets, and there’s a lot of it. from CBNNews.com https://ift.tt/tVMSxs0 via

For the first time ever, the city of San Francisco is spending $6 million dollars for a national tourism campaign, hoping to change the perception that one of the world’s most beautiful destinations has turned into an urban nightmare. How bad is it? So-called ‘poop maps’  and ‘poop apps’ have been created over the years to help residents avoid the excrement on sidewalks and streets, and there’s a lot of it. Unfortunately, San Francisco is only one of many U.S. cities facing what economists call the “Urban Doom Loop.” As businesses and the wealthy flee urban areas, the loss of tax money means a lower quality of life, causing a death spiral as more people and businesses leave. from CBNNews.com https://ift.tt/xkrauXT via

Could more women soon be traveling to Virginia for an abortion? Advocates on both sides of the issue believe it's possible. Pressure Mounting on Virginia as New Abortion Measures Take Hold in South

Could more women be traveling to Virginia for an abortion? Advocates on both sides of the issue believe it's possible. In the year following the Supreme Court's landmark ruling on Dobbs overturned Roe vs. Wade, more restrictions are going into effect in the South. That leaves the commonwealth poised to become the only state in the region to allow an abortion with minimal restrictions. Pro-life advocates credit tougher laws in southern states for saving an estimated 200,000 babies from abortion. But in Virginia, where the laws are more lax, clinics are bracing or an influx of patients. Many believe that makes Virginia the next big battleground over the issue, especially as the laws in the southern states begin to take hold.    from CBNNews.com https://ift.tt/H31dYPB via

Record Western Snowpack Buys Time for Agreement on Managing Region's Depleted Water Supply

Major winter storms in the western states left the Rocky Mountains with one of the largest snow packs on record. As that snow melts it's expected to help the depleted reservoirs of the Colorado River, which provides water for 7 states. The Colorado River feeds Lakes Powell and Mead, the nation's largest reservoirs, serving 40 million Americans across the states of California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and New Mexico. It would be a catastrophe if the water stopped flowing. Last year, as the reservoirs began to reach dangerously low levels, the federal government stepped in, ordering those states to significantly reduce water use. from CBNNews.com https://ift.tt/SNWPbke via
