7th Memphis Officer Disciplined, EMTs Fired in Nichols Death

Memphis police say two more officers involved in the arrest, beating and death of Tyre Nichols have been disciplined. Five Memphis officers already had been fired and charged in the Jan. 7 arrest of Nichols, who was Black. Police said Monday that officer Preston Hemphill was relieved of duty shortly after Nichols’ Jan. 7 arrest. The department said later that another officer has been relieved of duty. In total, seven officers have been disciplined for the arrest of Nichols, who died Jan. 10. DA: 5 Memphis Cops 'All Responsible' for Tyre Nichols' Death

Five fired Memphis police officers have been charged with murder and other crimes in the killing of Tyre Nichols, a Black motorist who died three days after a confrontation with the officers during a traffic stop. Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy said although the officers each played different roles in the killing, “they are all responsible.” All of the officers are Black. Video of the Jan. 7 traffic stop will be released to the public sometime Friday evening. 7 Dead as California Mourns 3rd Mass Killing in 8 Days

Seven people were killed in two related shootings Monday in a coastal community south of San Francisco. It marks California's third mass killing in eight days. The San Mateo County Sheriff's office says 67-year-old Chunli Zhao is in custody as the suspect in the shooting. Authorities say four people were found dead and one critically wounded from gunshots mid-afternoon. Then three others were found dead at a business several miles away. The connection between the locations is unclear but the sheriff's office says both are agricultural businesses.
